Are There Complications?
People with certain skin types have a risk of developing a temporary or permanent skin color change. This risk may increase if you take birth control pills, have been pregnant, or have a family history of brownish discoloration on the face. Persistent redness also may occur after a chemical peel and can last for months.
Although very low, there is a risk of scarring after a chemical peel. If scarring does occur, it can usually be treated with good results. Proper precautions should be taken for patients with a history of fever blisters, cold sores or keloids.

What Are The Limitations of Chemical Peels?

What is The Difference Between Glycolic and Lactic Acid Peels?

Glycolic Acid is the most active and beneficial of the Alpha-Hydroxy-Acids (AHA) in skin care and is made from sugar canes. It is the only AHA which is able to penetrate through the cell walls by virtue of its small molecular size. Once inside the cell, it will trigger new formation of collagen and turn on the synthesis of dermal glycosaminoglycans to plump up the cell and the ground substances in the skin to reduce wrinkles on the skins surface. Glycolic Acid also affects the newly forming keratin cells at the bottom of the stratum corneum causing the bulk of the stratum corneum to lift off and separate from the underlying skin. This gives the skin a much smoother look and feel.

Lactic Acid is derived from sour milk, and is much milder on the skin versus other peels. The peeling process is very similar to how Glycolic acid works. It has many important qualities, number one being that it is milder than other peels as mentioned above, so people with sensitive skin can apply this peel and see the same results as stronger peels. If you have Rosacea, this is a better peel for you than Glycolic acid. Lactic Acid is said to be less harsh and more moisturizing than Glycolic Acid skin peels. The Lactic Acid Peel is a mild facial treatment suited for clients with sensitive skin. This peel can also benefit those who are new to chemical peels and wish to advance to stronger treatments in the future.
These peels are effective for treating sun damaged, dry, scarred, splotchy, discolored or acne prone skin. The peel comes in various levels of strength depending on your skin type and the amount of layers used.

Choosing a strength that's right for you:

If this is your first peel and you have sensitive skin, you may begin with lower percentages (10% - 30%) and work your way up to higher percentages.

If you have experience with peels and have normal skin, then you may begin with our higher percentages (40% - 50%).

Acne sufferers please note:
How long does it take for your skin to produce a pimple or whitehead?
Approximately 2 - 3 weeks -- Clogged pores in your skin start the process because the sebum (oil) that your pores produce cannot escape. As the oil hardens under the skin’s surface it creates a plug making it impossible for newly-produced sebum to be released. This is the process that leads to unsightly pimples or whiteheads. In extreme cases, bacteria is introduced and pimples get infected. This is the primary cause of acne. Glycoderm Chemical Peels stops the process before it begins – by keeping the pores open and melting hardened sebum. Over time, because the process continually melts sebum, you will see a steady improvement in the appearance and clarity of your skin. No hard sebum – no plugged pores. No clogged pores – no pimples. No pimples – no acne. It’s simple and effective. In fact, most doctors recommend Glycoderm specifically for this purpose. When you first begin using Glycoderm Chemical Peel Products, it takes time to reverse clogged pores and melt the sebum that has already formed under you skin. This may take up to 3 - 6 weeks. Regular use of Glycoderm Chemical Peels helps keep your pores free of blockages so that pimples do not form again.

What happens if I stop using the Glycoderm Chemical Peel Products?
Unfortunately, the results you achieved will disappear if you stop using glycolic acid. The dead cell layer will build up once again, and pores will become plugged up again. The bottom line: The original symptoms and problems will re-occur.

Is Glycoderm Chemical Peels Safe?
Yes. It is a 100% non-toxic substance which does not enter the blood stream when applied to your skin. It has FDA approval in smaller concentrations for the general public. It is not considered a drug and there are no bad side effects when used according to the directions. It does have sun precautions that should be followed closely, however.

How can Glycoderm Chemical Peels help my skin problems, when so many other products have failed?
Your other products don't help you because they simply cannot penetrate into your skin. You first have to understand some basic knowledge regarding your skin's structure to really understand why the other products haven't been working.

  • Your skin is made up of three layers, the epidermis, the dermis and the subcutaneous tissue.
  • The epidermis is the tough, outside layer of skin made up of layers of individual dead cells called squamous. These cells are continuously shed as the new cells work their way up from below. The outermost layer of these squamous cells becomes its own layer: the stratum corneum. Glycoderm Chemical Peels main function is to exfoliate this dead layer of squamous cells.
  • The dermis is the second layer in. It is responsible for the skin's elasticity (elastin) and strength (collagen). *The sebaceous is the fatty layer which also contains most of your hair follicles.
  • The average skin care product ingredients can only treat the outermost layer (squamous) of skin cells, since their molecular structures are too large to actually penetrate into the epidermis, let alone the dermis. Since these products can't really dig in and help your skin's structure, they just sit on top and temporarily improve the skins look by plumping and smoothing the dead squamous cells. .
  • There are only two skin care substances which have molecules small enough to penetrate this top layer and do some real structural good. The most popular, because of its excellent function, is glycolic acid, an Alpha Hydroxy Acid. Once the Glycoderm glycolic acid penetrates through the layers of skin, it can help to keep the hair follicles cleared of built up squamous cells, thus reducing the blockages that cause acne in many individuals. Also, it can trigger the formation of new elastin cells and collagen. After using Glycoderm glycolic acid, the skin will have a much smoother look and feel from the inside out.
How do Alpha Hydroxy Acids really work?
AHA's break the bonds between weakened skin cells, making it easy to exfoliate them and encourage the production of new cells. *In a clinical study conducted at Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Pennsylvania, it was determined that using a Glycoderm chemcial peel (containing at least 20% acid) lead to a 25% increase in skin thickness, improved quality of elastic fibers and an increased density of collagen.

What are the Benefits of Glycoderm Chemical Peels?
Glycoderm Chemical Peels are used to improve the quality of the skin surface, to slow the aging process and increase moisturization through exfoliation. They work actively to reduce the problems of acne prone skin, acne scars, dry and oily skin, photodamaged skin, age spots, pigment irregularities, and fine wrinkles.

When can I expect to see the results?
Within a few weeks of regularly using Glycoderm products, skin should appear smoother and healthier. Some people notice a difference after two or three peels. You should notice a marked difference in the texture of your skin within 6-10 peels.

Should I avoid sun exposure while using Glycoderm Chemical Peel Products?
Absolutely, you should always wear a broad spectrum sunscreen (SPF of at least 15) applied hourly to prevent photo damage if you plan to be in the Sun. Your new baby fresh skin in sensitive and needs to be protected.

What should I expect within the first few days of using Glycoderm Chemical Peel products?
As the dead cell layer sloughs off, your skin may appear slightly drier than normal. Once the transition is made, your complexion will appear more youthful and vibrant.

When can I expect my acne to improve?
As Glycoderm Chemical Peel clears and cleanses pores, acne may initially appear to be slightly more active. But as the pores are cleared, your skin should show marked improvement. (Usually within 2 - 3 weeks).

What happens if I stop using the Glycoderm Chemical peel products?
The results you achieved from the Glycoderm Chemical Peel products will not immediately disappear. However if a maintenance program is not implemented, the dead cell layer will once again build up, and the original problem will re-occur.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR GLYCODERM CHEMICAL PEELS

DO A SKIN TEST: (Recommended before the full peel)

It is recommended to successfully complete a patch test to the area of skin you intend to treat. This consists of applying the peel to a small part of the skin near the area you plan to treat after the patch test is completed. For example, if you plan to treat your cheek area, then you would apply the peel solution to a small area near or on the cheek or even off to the side where it can not be seen as easily. You would continue the process as if you are treating the entire area of skin.

  • First you will wash your face clean and clear of any oil or dirt using a mild cleanser.
  • Make sure you have a hair dryer or fan (this will help reduce any burning sensation if using glycolic peel), applicator pads/cotton tips if you prefer to use these, peel solution bottle, neutralizer solution bottle, all within arms reach.
  • Make sure to shake chemical peel solution bottle and neutralizer solution bottle thoroughly and carefully
  • Slowly distributing peel solution to approximately ¼ of the applicator pad. A cotton tip or the applicator may be used for more detailed or harder areas. An applicator pad is much faster and distributes more evenly but will use the up the chemical peel a lot faster than an applicator
  • Once the solution is delivered to the applicator pad, quickly and carefully apply the pad to the area you wish to treat. Stay clear of the eyes and other skin sensitive areas!  Then start the timing process and turn on the hair dryer or fan to keep the skin cool, since the burning sensation of the skin can be very uncomfortable
  • The burning will begin to subside. Leave the solution on the skin between 2-5 minutes total, unless the burning cannot be tolerated, then apply neutralizer.
  • Applying extra layers is very common and much more effective, however first know what your skin can handle and do not do this the first time
  • Always apply neutralizer before rinsing with water
  • Your skin will immediately begin to feel tight and smooth after rinsing with water
  • Do not pick any crusting that may occur after the peel
  • Your skin may start to flake and peel – this is a good sign so just keep exfoliating and moisturising
  •  Chemical peels can be done every 7 days

POST TREATMENT:
Complete healing may take between 7-21 days or longer depending on the solution strength and type of peel used. Following treatment you will need to use a moisturiser with spf since your skin will be highly sensitive at this particular time. A mild face wash is recommended especially after using a stronger solution peel.

TANNING:
Make sure not to tan 1 week prior and 2 weeks after treatment, this has potential to cause skin discoloration if you are not careful. If the peel is a low strength AHA or BHA, such as Lactic Acid or Salicylic Acid, then you should wait a minimum of 1 week until tanning again.

SHAVING/WAXING:
Do not shave/wax on or near the area you wish to treat at least 2 days prior to the peel, and 3 days after. This may cause extreme sensitivity to the skin, causing unwanted side effects such as discoloration, excessive redness, rash etc.
